„Why sit we mute, when early Linnets sing, / When warbling Philomel salutes the spring? / Why sit we sad, when Phosphor shines so clear, / And lavish Nature paints the Purple Year?“

Above (from left to right): 1) An illustration from an edition of Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard which I found - it's nothing too remarkable but I wanted to add something other than words to this page! In this particular edition a previous owner had slipped a handwritten prayer between the pages - I love when you find things people forget to take out...or inscriptions for husbands' or wives' or brothers' or sisters' birthdays or christmasses... 2) I would like to give an explanation as to what this is but, truly, I can't! It's a visualisation of a circle of fifths progression - this much we know - but how it is or, indeed, why it exists are as of yet mystery... 3) The third image is a poem by Sylvia Plath, named Blackberrying - I think it's one of my favourites of hers, and that means it's one of my favourites full-stop...it's true, not just of her poetry and prose but also of the way she speaks, that every word works, and this poem is a particularly good example. Sometimes you read a poem and think to yourself that perhaps, someday, maybe you'll write this well. With Plath, I'd be a fool to think that. 4) Messiaen, serving face.
